Our courses focus on classical-academic dance and prepare young talented dancers between the ages 11 and 19 for their future careers as professional dancers. Our introduction classes is open to young dance enthusiasts aged 10 to 11.
Professional training in classical dance begins approximately at the age of 11 or 12. Students first pursue a basic studies curriculum before entering our advanced studies programme at around the age of 16. Our school year peaks in our annual school gala, where students take to stage and display their impressive skills to a wider audience. Professional training at Zurich Dance Academy (taZ) leads to a Federal Certificate of Proficiency (EFZ).
We have our own professionally managed boarding school. It provides an ideal setting to nurture young dance talents from Switzerland and abroad from the very outset.
Around one hundred students from Switzerland, Europe, and overseas are currently enrolled in our high-quality courses. Upon graduation, most of our graduates join outstanding companies worldwide, including Zurich Ballet, the Bavarian State Opera Munich, Stuttgart Ballet, Hamburg Ballet, Netherlands Dance Theatre, American Ballet Theatre New York and the National Ballet of Canada. Our many award-winning students, honoured at acclaimed international ballet competitions in Lausanne, Varna, Berlin, and New York, also contribute to our school’s outstanding success.
Our distinguished and internationally renowned faculty stands for the highest possible professional standards. Along with several of the most reputable ballet schools worldwide, Zurich Dance Academy (taZ) is a partner school of two of the world’s most acclaimed dance and ballet competitions: the “Prix de Lausanne” and the “Youth America Grand Prix.” We are officially listed as one of the “Leading Schools in the World.” Japanese newspapers credit us as being one of the “Shooting stars among ballet schools.”
Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) has been relocated to its new campus – the so-called Toni Areal – in the summer of 2014, bringing together the various art and design disciplines under one roof. For us, moving into our new, bright, and spacious dance studios at Toni marks an important step into the future. Our goals are to remain one of the leading ballet schools and to improve our performance everyday.
